Calidad ambiental de las reservas naturales fluviales internacionales y del medio acuático

Activity 2. Quality Conservation

This activity intends to eliminate the sources of disruption of the quality of the bodies of water. It includes joint actions to guarantee and maintain the water quality of the Trancoso-Troncoso and Laboreiro rivers.

Action 1

In view of the excellent status of both bodies of water, and the need to maintain this status in order to preserve these natural river reserves, Carisma Project propose development of corrective measures for domestic wastewater discharges.

Although Trancoso river waters can be considered very good, hardly any population pressures, has been detected sources of discharges from small population pressure which must be corrected. Given rugged topography of the land, and dispersal population, along with the need to implement the most efficient technical solution available, Carisma provides a compact sewage at Trancoso river in Melgaço to mitigate adverse effects of discharges and pressures detected.

Compact treatment facility is best technical innovation available to serve small towns, also minimizing the impact on landscape in this area of great ecological value. These new technologies contribute also to minimize emissions to the environment, helping to reduce by 20% CO2 emissions.

Meanwhile, in the municipality of Padrenda will undertake the construction of a sewage treatment plant in Ponte Barxas. Due to a population more than appreciable, have been decided to fund by other means, still appearing in this second action under this activity since although it falls within the project budget does help in eliminating pollution sources, which is the subject of this task.

Action 2

In view of the excellent status of both bodies of water, and the need to maintain this status in order to preserve these natural river reserves, the corrective measures shall be accompanied by the explanation and communication to the population of the beneficiary municipalities as well as to those visiting this natural setting. These actions will be carried out using explanatory materials (such as leaflets and brochures), which will explain the corrective measures that have been adopted and, above all, they will inform the population of the excellent condition/status of the river and the advisable environmental practices that will guarantee its conservation.
